Cyberpunk is a sci-fi subgenre featuring advanced science and technology in an urban, dystopian future.
On one side you have powerful mega-corporations and private security forces, and on the other you have the dark underworld of illegal trade, gangs, drugs, and vice.
In between all of this is politics, corruption, and social upheaval.
WHERE AESTHETIC EXCELLENCE MEETS NARRATIVE MEDIOCRITY
At the end of the world there will only be liquid advertisement and gaseous desire.
The future has looked the same for almost four decades.
Sublimated from our bodies, our untethered senses will endlessly ride escalators through pristine artificial environments, more and less than human, drugged-up and drugged down, catalysed, consuming and consumed by a relentlessly rich economy of sensory information, valued by the pixel. Cyberpunk movies and anime often provide a pertinent critique on the social and political institutions through its architecture.
Post-Cyberpunk is a modern reaction to the now antiquated visual qualities of ’80s inspired cyberpunk. Post-Cyberpunk tends to have a greater focus on Transhumanism, space travel, and emerging technologies that weren’t imagined at the time of the ’80s.
Cyber refers to technology, and is most often associated with cyberspace (this word was originally coined by William Gibson himself), and cybernetic enhancements to the body.
Punk, on the other hand, refers to the people and the attitude that cyberpunk has. The protagonists tend to be outsiders, anti-heroes, outcasts, criminals, visionaries, dissenters, and misfits.
Advert-Overloaded Future
We now live in hyperreality, a world where simulations of reality seem more real than reality itself. a cyberpunk-style corporate dystopia
The term hyperreality was coined by French theorist Jean Baudrillard to describe the postmodern, semiotic condition of society. In short, it is the condition in which we are unable to distinguish between reality, and our simulation of reality.
The Fifth Element is a prediction of the global capitalist nightmare we find ourselves in.
More discourse has surfaced in the past years discussing the epic fashions of The Fifth Element than have discussed its depiction of the climate crisis. Besson’s dystopic masterpiece has, in a way, become victim to its own success.

Is a person still a cyborg if the only human component is a human brain?
Neurobiology, cybernetics and computer technology have advanced to such a point that most people possess "neuro-cyberbrains"—a technological "organic-synthetic" wetware computeruser interface implant located in the suboccipital nerve region of the cranium; this allows their minds to seamlessly interact with mobile devices, machines or networks around them. The neuro-cyberbrain revolutionized education and has made training in any task simply a matter of uploading the proper data. Wetwear - wet software - a mixture of software, hardware, and biology
